Dr. Silvia Asherian

FullSizeRenderThroughout my life, I have always been passionate about helping others and dedicated to learning about the human mind, our emotions and our behavior. It was clear to me early on that a path in psychology would give me the knowledge and experience I was looking for, as well as the opportunity to work with and help children, adults and families.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Social Sciences Interdisciplinary from Stony Brook University in 2003, and minored in Child and Family studies. As an undergraduate, I was a member of the Psychology Honors Program and graduated magna cum laude.  I proceeded to graduate school at New York University and earned my Master of Arts degree in School Psychological Services and Doctor of Psychology degree in Child and School Psychology in 2010. I received my New York State Psychology License in 2012 and have been in private practice ever since. I have had a great deal of clinical experience in a variety of settings including schools, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient counseling centers and private practice. While I enjoy working with all different ages, I have a passion for working with teens and young adults and helping them navigate through life and become the best versions of themselves.

I approach therapy with openness, compassion, and a genuine interest in my clients’ well-being. I am dedicated to working with my clients to bring about self-awareness, enhance self-esteem and self-love and guiding them to make positive changes. I am sensitive to and appreciative of cultural and/or religious issues. I place an emphasis on helping my clients to discover the emotional, physical, cultural and spiritual balance that provides them with comfort and stability.

I provide psychotherapy to children (ages 8-12), adolescents/teens and adults. Parent support and family therapy sessions are incorporated into treatment when necessary. I also offer several types of therapy groups.

I strive to thoroughly understand my clients’ unique personalities, experiences and goals by remaining an active participant in each session. I believe that psychotherapy can truly bring about more happiness, peace of mind and life fulfillment for children and their families and for adults in all phases of life.
